I just watched "Slap Shot 3" today, now I knew that it wouldn't compare to the original (starring Paul Newman and receiving 5 penguins) but I had hoped for better. Even the appearance of Doug Gilmour, Mark Messier and the Hanson Brothers couldn't save this one from a 2 penguin rating. The second one with Stephen Baldwin wasn't much good either at 2 penguins. I heard news that they may try to remake the original. To this I say let's not mess with a good thing.
"Transporter 3", starring Jason Statham gets 4 penguins. The story is basically the same as 1 and 2 but this one is the best of the three. 1 and 2 both get a 3 penguin rating and are pretty good.
I also started watching the TV series "Rescue Me" starring Dennis Leary. I was hoping for a good amount of fire fighting but it was more often than not a lot of cursing and sleazy scenes as Leary tries to juggle his job, kids, ex-wife and girlfriends all while having conversations with his deceased cousin who shows up to try to help. Definitely not a valuable use of my time. I saw 2 discs of season one hoping it would get better and when it didn't I called it quits. 2 penguins.
Now on the opposite end of the spectrum from my last entry we have "Slumdog Millionaire", 5 penguins. I really liked this one. They talked about it in church and made some interesting comments. The first was that even as bad as they portray life in India it is just the tip of the iceberg. The other was that a lot of theaters in India are not showing this movie because the caste system is still big there and I guess they don't want to see the story of someone making it off of the bottom rung. It is a great movie, the only thing I would change is the title, if you see it you may realize why.
