This week I watched "Tropic Thunder" starring Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. I give it 2 penguins, there was mediocre acting along with a lot of foul language and a so-so plot line. These two along with others are trying to make a war movie about a heroic soldier from the Vietnam war. I had some issues with the plot as I come from a military background and have respect for our soldiers who fought on foreign soil. If I were you I would let this one stay MIA.
I also saw "Bangkok Dangerous" with Nicolas Cage. This one gets 2 penguins as well. Cage plays an assassin for hire who finds he has a conscience after meeting a deaf girl and going on several dates with her. Lots of gunfire and explosions but I won't be buying this one.
One that I do like is "A Sound of Thunder" an easy 5 penguins. It stars Ed Burns as a scientist/businessman/big game hunter. The movie is set in the future and Burns works for a company that allows people (with big enough wallets) to go back in time and hunt a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The rule is that you can't touch anything. It is The Butterfly Effect; a butterfly flapping its wings in Pennsylvania will cause a hurricane off the coast of Japan. Everything we do is a chain reaction. So when something goes wrong on one of the hunts in the past the future is dramatically changed.
Along those lines is "The Butterfly Effect" with Ashton Kutcher. Ashton plays a guy who can go back and change the past in order to make the future better for him and his friends. He tries numerous times to make things "right" with mixed results. He finally comes up with the perfect solution...I won't spoil it for you. It is worth a look at 3 penguins.
