Today we have a large batch thanks to free movies from the Lancaster Public Library and cheap movies at Kendig Square.
First is "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I must say I was a little confused as to the point of it all throughout the entire movie. Maybe reading the book clears things up. There were a few funny parts but not enough 2 penguins.
Then there was "Drillbit Taylor" starring Owen Wilson. Wilson plays a mercenary for hire when three picked on 9th graders are being bullied and have no other choice. Exactly what I expected but hey it was free. 2 penguins.
Another trip to high school with "Friday Night Lights: season 1". Either they were playing it up for TV or there was a lot more drinking, drugs and sex going on in high school than I remember. I mean A LOT MORE! Of course my high school football team was more concerned about winning games than making it to state, thanks to our fine coach. 2 penguins, although I only got through disc 2 of 5.
Then we have "Be Kind Rewind" with jack Black and Mos Def. After an accident Jack becomes magnetized and erases all the VHS tapes at the rental store Mos works at. Their only hope is to recreate the missing movies for people. Interesting; 3 penguins.
Next is "Welcome to Mooseport" starring Gene Hackman and Ray Romano. Hackman is a former President of the US who is settling into retirement when he is asked to run for Mayor of Mooseport. Of course he must go up against Romano the local plumber. It definitely had me laughing and the round of golf they play is great. 4 penguins.
Also I saw "Into the Wild" a true story of a man who gives up everything to go to Alaska. Along the way he meets a lot of interesting characters and has quite an adventure. Even though it is largely speculation as to how he was living, it is a real good story. 3 penguins.
Lastly we have "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" starring Kevin James. I was surprised, usually they show all the funny parts in the trailers and there is nothing left in the movie. Not this time I found myself laughing quite a bit. James plays a Mall Cop trying to thwart a gang of robbers at the local mall and trying to win over the girl in the process. Does he defeat the bad guys and get the girl? I guess you'll have to see it yourself. 4 penguins.
