Unless you are completely clueless you know it is Memorial Day Weekend. I offer these 5 penguin rated movies with a focus on our military.
"The Great Escape", "Saving Pvt Ryan", "Pearl Harbor", "The Great Raid", "The Green Berets", "Air Force", "Memphis Belle", "U571", "Patton", Blackhawk Down", "The Devil's Brigade", "Saints and Soldiers", "The Wild Bunch" and "By Dawn's Early Light" to name a few.
Now having served in the military myself, sometimes you just have to laugh for that try these (also 5 penguins each). "Stripes", "Pentagon Wars" and "Military Intelligence and You".
So I say watch one of these this weekend. Heck watch em' all. I'll bring the popcorn.
And of course songwriters are not slackers for this topic. Listen to the words of songs like "God Bless the USA" and "The Great Defenders" by Lee Greenwood, "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" by Toby Keith, "Somebody's Someone" by Lonestar, "Some Gave All" by Billy Ray Cyrus, "Have You Forgotten" and "I Just Came Back From a War" by Darryl Worley, "8th of November" by Big & Rich and of course "The Star Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key.
I just learned within the last couple of years an interesting fact about the song Taps. Taps for those who don't know is the tune played at military funerals. I didn't know that there are words to the tune. The story and lyrics can be found at my.homewithgod.com/lanell/TAPS.html.
