Maybe She Should've Taken The Bus

Today I had an interesting experience on Rt 30. I was driving for Autopart International and I was on my way back from the BK in Columbia. I had gone there to meet with another driver from the York store so I could get some parts. I was driving around 60 mph. I got around a Turkey Hill 18 wheeler and settled into the slow lane. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw there was a brown sedan behind me. I looked forward then looked back. Now that sedan was racing across the shoulder through the grass and about halfway up the embankment! I got onto the shoulder and stopped. I fully expected the car to roll but it didn't. The car came to a stop still on the grass past the shoulder. The woman driving was OK however she was understandably shook up. We asked her what happened. She said she went to pass and then noticed a car coming up behind her very fast. So she got back in the other lane, just too quick. And when she went across the lane she was behind me but right in front of the 18 wheeler (and those things aren't known for stopping quickly). We (the Turkey Hill guy and I) tried to push her onto the shoulder. But because of the rain we had it was not working. Then he suggested that she drive on the grass to a spot that was less muddy and try there. So she backed up, I went to move a temporary construction sign and she started to drive. When she got to the spot the Turkey Hill guy said "OK turn your wheels and go!" Go she did. Although the Turkey Hill guy's uniform now had a large brown stripe up the front. He said he only had one more stop to make today. So the lesson is be careful when you pass and RT 30 IS NOT THE AUDUBON! Drive safe.
